Jennifer Bailey, a St Helens based entrepreneur and the founder of Calla Ltd, was the winner of MeWe360’s North of England “untapped talent 2017” competition entitling her to an investment of up to £10,000 to support her footwear business.
MeWe decided to launch the competition after discovering a vast amount of creative talent in the North of England. As well as the investment, Jenifer is receiving the support and nurturing of the MeWe360 network that has provided mentoring and support to over 2000 businesses and entrepreneurs since its foundation in 2012.
Jennifer started Calla Ltd, a footwear business that creates fashionable shoes for people who suffer from bunions, after finding it difficult to find stylish shoes that fitted people who suffer from the common foot condition. Since founding the company in 2016, she has sold over 400 pairs of shoes generating over £40,000 in revenue.
Louise Nkosi, MeWe Programme Director said: “Over the last year or so we have built a strong network of amazingly talented creative entrepreneurs from Manchester and across the North of England. We are extremely grateful to all who applied and in doing so have joined that network. Jennifer was selected after three rounds of very tough competition. We are delighted to support her in building her business.”
Jennifer Bailey, founder of Calla Ltd, said: “I am very happy to have won this competition. The funds and support from MeWe will help me take my business through the next stage of development. I intend to use to money to upscale the business faster and develop new designs. I am also looking forward to receiving the valuable contacts and mentoring that MeWe360 can bring.”
The competition was a fantastic opportunity for MeWe to meet some inspiring new talent. We also received great comments from all those who pitched saying that the experience was a brilliant development opportunity in itself, pointing to the detailed and considered feedback and practical advice provided by the judging panel. Looking forward to the next one….
